Summery learning Journey- Task One New Zealand

Top three facts about New Zealand 

 1. That rugby is the most popular spectator sport in New Zealand but a variety of sports such as football (soccer), cricket, netball, golf

2. The rocks are over 500 million years old. The rocks were once part of Gondwanaland but got split a part 160 million years ago.

3. The Lord of the Rings movie was filmed in New Zealand at the Waikato town of Matamata

    Kia ora Sayonara,

    Welcome back to the Summer Learning Journey this year. I am so excited to see that you have joined us again on this adventure this summer. We have had so many people jump online and complete activities over the last couple of days, it has been amazing.

    What a great way to kick start your journey, you have shared three really interesting facts. I did not know that New Zealand was around 500 million years old. Do you know what caused the super-continent, Gondwana, to split up? Maybe you could do some additional research and let me know what you find out.

    I am impressed that you found some of your own facts about our beautiful country of Aotearoa. However, when I look at the activity on the Summer Learning Journey website, it asks you to visit the Tourism NZ webiste to retrieve the facts. Is this the activity you looked at?       Hi Megan thank you for the comment and hope I see you today at the Wesley Community Center. My three favourite fact is when the Queen Elizabeth II is officially Queen of New Zealand, represented in the country by a Governor General, also when you become a New Zealand citizen, you must swear an oath of loyalty to Queen Elizabeth, and that most popular films like Once were Warriors’, ‘The Whale Rider’,and the `The Piano’.

      Thank you so much for your reply. These are very interesting facts aren't they. I am also amazed that you must swear an oath of loyalty to the queen when you attend a ceremony to become a New Zealand citizen. To me, this seems like a very traditional aspect of a ceremony which I am suprised is still included.
