Summer Learning Journey- Day Three Task Three WWF

Worlds Wildlife Fund

The name of the animal from the video that I was watching was about the pup seals.

What the Worlds Wildlife Fund (WWF) is doing to help the pup seal is that they are building a snow bank. Their reason for making and snow bank is that the pup seal needs protection against its predators, cold and human disturbing because some of the seal pups could die easy.

  1. Hi Sayonara,

I'm Leslie and I'm a member of the Summer Learning Journey. I live in Canada, on the other side of the world from you. Isn't it neat that I can live so far away and yet still participate in your program?

We have seal populations living in the far north of our country, Canada. They're a different species than the ones in the video you watched - they're freshwater seals native to Finland.

Isn't it amazing that something so simple as building snowdrifts can make a big difference in the lives of an animal population, such as the seals? And isn't it wonderful that there are people who are willing to do that work in order to help more seals pup to survive into adulthood?

Would you be interested in doing this kind of work for the World Wildlife Fund, or some other organization? Are you interested in studying animal biology? Are there animals in New Zealand that you would like to protect?

It's winter in Canada right now so I'm used to seeing lots of snow on the ground, and ice on our rivers and lakes. The picture of the seal pup might be harder for you to relate to since you're in the middle of summer holidays.

I hope you're having a wonderful summer time. And I hope you'll continue to do some of the Summer Learning Journey activities. I'll watch your blog and write to you if you do!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
