Summer Learning Journey- Day 2 Task One Forest Life

Giants among us

I would like to visit the Tane Mahuta tree because I want to learn more about how the tree got its name ' Lord of the Forest '. Plus I want to know if the tree is still alive and growing would the tree still be alive in 80-90 years time and how long would it be before it dies.

Ka pai, you have given a clear view point and two reasons why you would want to visit Tāne Mahuta. I admire your curiosity about wanting to know and learn more about our wonderful Kauri.

Perhaps next time you could provide a little more background about our mighty Kauri trees. You could include information about how long it takes for Kauri to fully grow and talk about threats to their livelihood (ability to live well).

Kauri Dieback is a disease that harms our beautiful Kauri. Did you know about this disease? If not, it'd be good to research if you are really keen on visiting Tāne Mahuta or any Kauri trees in person.

One day I would like to visit Tāne Mahuta so I can see the wonder of nature up close. It has grown to be magnificent so I’d love to see it in person because a picture wouldn’t do its beauty and scale any justice.

I hope you are enjoying your holidays, keep up the good work.

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.
